Looking for a coil for an early 90's 3 pin coil for 3 cyl. Weterbeke. Coil P/N 37968 per the owner's manual. Anybody have a source for new or used for reasonable (har,har)price. Thanks.

Time for some serious investigation. can you take some detailed pIX from all sides?. Is it a points ignition?? Why do you think the coil is bad?? more likely the resistor. Have you tested continuity everywhere??
 
My heart goes out to you. Westerbeke and their distriutors can be obscene in their pricing. I would start digging if bob's suggestions don't work. Kind of like my search when I found my Kohler genny was powered by Ford. The Ford Truck dealer saved me some money. If it is the coil; can coils be rebuilt?
 
Indeed, are there any clues to who made the engine?? Any brand or part number stamps on the coil??
What color paint under the westerbeke red?
 
I have a 4.5 W'beke in my SR and got tired of the same overpricing crap from W'beke.

The 3 cylinder engine on mine is a marinized Mitsubishi or Daihatsu. It (non-marinized) was common in the Japanese work trucks.

The guy was tremendous in id'ing parts with me just from pix. He told me where to contort my body to get serial numbers off the engine too.

I'm not sure but I think was a Mitsubishi engine. Anybody looking for a Kohler 7.3ECD with soundshield is from a friend of mine which passed away a few months ha s almost no Hours is like New. His family are asking for 4000..
 
Yep! $600.00 on EBay. You might send the seller a note and offer $XXX.xx through Paypal. He might accept. First, I would make very sure that it is the coil that is the problem and I would then put it in bag and show it to Mit. Truck and a couple of generator places that use Mit. Also, if in the Miami area have Luis Quinones test it. 11580 NE 2cd Ave N. Miami. 305.754.3387 Or ask him if he knows someone closer to home. Look at Youtube for some pointers. Play Sherlock. Use an old Chrysler coil WITHOUT internal resistor. Check out your resistor first, they tend to go instead of coil.
