After 8 years of owning my 34' Whisperjet, I worked a trade deal for a Hinckley 29C (center console).

The boat has its original, and very typical, flag blue Awlgrip and could use a paint job. I have given the green light to a well repected fiberglass/paint shop in Mass. Now I need to choose a color.

The easiest and safest choice would be to just stick with flag blue. Probably 75% of Hinckleys leave the factory this color. It looks good, it's what people expect in a Hinckley, it would probably be best for resale....and it's boring...

I'd like to stick with something 'classic', but want it to stand out a bit. Right now I'm considering claret red or stars and stripes blue. If I did red, about the only bottom paint color I could do is black, if I did the Stars and Stripes blue, I've seen bottoms done in black, red, green and maybe blue. I like the idea of changing bottom colors every couple of years, it's kind of like a minor facelift every few years.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Thanks

I'm generally not at all a fan of red-hulled boats, but I've seen a red 29C whose owner occasionally fishes a spot I frequent and have to admit it looked very good in combo with all that brightwork.

In the other direction, perhaps an elegant deep shade of gray?

You or Hinckley or perhaps the paint shop could Photoshop a pic of your boat with all the different colors you might consider so you coud get a better idea of what strikes you as something you could enjoyably live with over time.

I'm having my hull painted Star & Stripes Blue this winter.

On a Hinckley I think it would look great. You do a red & blue boot stripe and it really sets it off.

I love that detail.
