what is a good way to bed deck hardware

I'm re-bedding the deck hardware and bow rail. What procedure have any of you used that keeps water from working down the through bolts.

I was planning on applying 4200 and letting it cure before I put the bolts in, then drill a small pilot hole in the 4200 and thread the bolts in. I'm hoping this will create a gasket around the through bolts.
