This prompts the following question:
Since all of us, from time to time, single-hand our boat, what personal safety items do you wear while single-handing? Why those particular items?

To kick it off, I will share my list. The items were selected with the "neighborhood" in mind, that is, the coastal water of the northeastern Gulf of Mexico, 0 to 50 nm out. All items were worn whenever there was a risk of going overboard: ie: always when on deck, and always regardless of location in bad weather.
Auto-inflate offshore PFD. PFD equipped with a auto-on strobe and a whistle and a signal mirror. ( always wore this... )
In a belt pack:
3 "Skisafe" meteor flares. For signaling rescuers...
small tackle box sizes compressed gas horn. Louder than a whistle.
another cheap plastic whistle. I love redundancy.
flashlight. Night time signaling. General emerg use.
SPF 50 "sport stick" for lips ( and face, if needed )
During non-ideal conditions, a submersible VHF, in a ziplock bag.
