Does anyone have any information about the Wilmington, Delaware waterfront? I heard the area is been developed and there are nice restaurants and other attractions close to the water. How easy is it to navigate from the Delaware river? where are the docking facilities...costs, etc. Thanks in advance for any info.

I'll update when there is more time. Depends on your air draft. There are 2 (I think) bridges you have to go under. They are draw but you need to notify them well in advance. The waterfront shops have a dock you can tie up to. However, I would NOT want to be there at night. Joes Crab house is one of the restaruants. The big Kahuna is gone. There are a few others within walking distance but again, I don't know the area that well and it used to be 'rough'. The Blue Rock's stadium is right there. If you're coming from Jersey, I'd go the rest of the distance to Chesapeake City. Again, depends on your speed. I take my 11' Whaler and run through Wilm. It's mostly no wake. Up the Creek marina is right to starboard after the ship terminal. Nice ride around Wilm in a small boat and then go home in my opinion. If I think of more, I'll post. Easy to navigate from the river but then again, I'm in a small boat. What size are you?

I have never seen any pleasure boats tied up at the waterfront area, nor would I leave a boat unattended there. The water gets shallow at the S Market St. bridge. I have seen some 19 ft. boats anchored at the Kahuna when that was open. Wilminton's only marina is under I495 in the heart of no-mans-land. I would recommend visiting Wilmington by car. Old New Castle is very nice, but again, I have never seen any pleasure boats tied up there.

Last year they put in a nice 360 foot floating dock, behind Iron Hill Brewery & Joe's crab shack. Easy walk to the Blue Rocks stadium, and the rest of the attractions over there - like Harry's Seafood, and the rest of the waterfront restaraunts. Last fourth of July, I tied my boat up there around 10:00am, then came back that evening for fireworks. Turns out only two or three other boats showed up, but it was raining all day/night. Great spot for the firewaorks. Dockage is free, but there is no overnight dockage, supposed to be out by midnight. How much bridge clearance do you need? That would be the only problem getting to the city dock.

I think Up the Creek closed down last summer. Has anyone been there recently? That was my favorite spot on the Chirstina; very quick access from the river, not the best restaraunt in town, but still a great place to stop for lunch of diner. The new dock is much nicer, restaraunts are better, but it takes about an hour to get up there, as the entire river is supposed to be no wake. There is a Coast Guard auxillary boat docked, and a City Police boat docked by the first bridge you go under - coorection - it's the second bridge, past where the Kalmar Nickel is docked. I boated on the river at least a dozen times before I was aware it was no wake between the Brandywine Creek and the first no wake sign in front of the rowers dock, never had a problem until the Auxillary guys were out one day, and let me know it was no wake all the way in, and that the City Police do write plenty of tickets.

Thanks for the replies guys. Bridge clearance will not be a problem for me. Interesting on the no-wake zone.
