Work-around: Purasan Tablet Dispenser Overhead Clearance

Vic and the sanitation crew: what do you think?

Space for installing a Purasan MSD in my old 26' Cruiser is extremely limited. The forward compartment really doesn't have headroom. You can't stand up in there unless the overhead hatch is fully opened. The Purasan unit was installed there in back of the head with the base of the Purasan a couple of inches higher than the mounting bolts for the head. There was plenty of headroom to mount the Purasan Tablet Dispenser 15" above the top of the vented loop, but there were not 8" inches of headroom available above the Purasan Tablet Dispenser Cap. This 8" is needed when an empty Purasan Tablet Cartridge is pulled out of the tablet dispenser and a new one is replaced.

The solution was a set of wing nuts and some machine screws.

This is the only photo I have of the Purasan Tablet Dispenser, so please bear with me and use your imagination. Pretend the white shelf under the tablet dispenser isn't there. I made the shelf to lift up and out easily, allowing maintenance access to the tablet dispenser and hoses.

In back of the tablet dispenser, there is an integral mounting bracket allowing the dispenser to be wall-mounted with two screws.

Here's the fix: There are two sets of machine screws protruding from the two pieces of blond wood behind the tablet dispenser. The dispenser mounting bracket is placed over the two upper machine screws and tightened down with a pair of small wing nuts. This is the operating position and it's pictured above.

To replace the tablet cartridge, the wing nuts are spun off and the dispenser is mounted on the two lower machine screws. You can see the threaded ends of the lower screws in the photo. The wing nuts are simply spun on again to remount the dispenser. These screws are located 8" below the upper set, allowing easy removal of the tablet dispenser cap and replacement of the tablet cartridge. Once the cartridge and cap are replaced, the dispenser is remounted on the upper (operating) position.

This mounting method has an additional plus: it was easy to remove the dispenser for cleaning out disinfectant residue that fogged the bottom of the dispenser after about a year of use.
