Anyone know the good, bad, or/ ugly about Yanmar 6CX 6 cylinder 500 hp engines?

I am also wondering who's block is used?

Thanks

The only thing I know about critical mass on diesels is the number of horsepower developed per cubic inch.

I had a Yanmar in a 1981 26' sailboat. It was about 8 or 9 hp. I bought it with what appeared to be a cracked block due to freezing. The block was not cracked . The sacrificial plate that was designed to crack was in two pieces. I replaced it myself for next to nothing. It was loud and bopped around a little - but never failed me.
