What is everyone doing for Group 27 batteries now? Mine need to be replaced soon.

I'm not sure how they compare to more expensive brands - but I'm a big fan of the walmart "everstart" marine batteries. Mostly because I live near a walmart - but this is a lot of battery for ninety bucks - https://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStar...12V-845-MCA/20531543?fulfillmentIntent=Pickup -- I'm on year six with my current battery, might replace this year, or may go one more. I always buy deep cycle, even for starting gas motor.

A little secret I've learn but sometime get sh!t for when I post it..... I buy all my Batteries at Costco. Interstate batteries with a 36 months 100% warrantee. Costco does not have the ability to test or charge batteries so i return them every 34 months for an exchange. No questions asked. Walk in with the old one and out with a new one.

For my use I would be hard pressed to not use AGM’s even with the higher cost. The lower discharge rate, 1-3% a month, means I‘m usually able to start the motors even after sitting idle over the colder months. I’m 5 hours from boat and anything that helps to insure getting the boat in the water whenI get there is a good thing. Having charged up batt’s is one less thing to deal with and worth a little extra $’s to me.

Don't buy the Exide batteries at Home Depot, I bought 3 and they all failed 1st year!

I can't get any marine batteries to come up on Costco's site.

But that is not proper. You are scamming the system. Shame.

I just bought one today at a Walmart in DE. It was manufactured by East Penn which is as good as it gets for consumer batteries. Better than Interstate which are probably made by Clarios.

Run from Exide batteries.

Cannot say all the Walmarts sell batteries made by East Penn.

AGM would be fine but all the batteries would need to be changed at once. Even then you need to consider the charging rate.

I have been running interstate batteries for 16 years.
Remember Interstate is a marketing brand not a manufacturer. They source from Clarios mainly but also from Exide and maybe others. And things can change as contracts end and new ones are written. Just like Walmart sources their batteries.

I think the consensus is East Penn are the best, then Clarios then a distant bottom is Exide. This is for car or marine batteries that are easy to find and are regular flooded.

So I have found the batteries at Farm and Fleet are the same as they sell at West Marine. A few bucks cheaper.

I've been using Deka Marine gp 27 dual purpose batteries for about 15 years. Get them at Compass Rose Marine in Huntington NY.
