Found this online this morning: boat hitting bridge fenders.

This the north side of the Port of Miami bridge and the video looks like it was shot from a Virgin Cruise ship since that’s where their terminal is. In the lower left corner you can see the tug’s propwash which pushed the bow of the MY into the bridge fenders.

That boat looks familiar. I am wondering if this a Rossinavi but it is not the best quality video.

It s the infamous Utopia IV which ran into and sank a Bahamian fuel tanker two years ago…

That was my suspicion. I wonder if there was a crew change since the tanker accident. Hope they bought the Abacos a new tanker!

Help me understand how the North East Providence Channel is West of Nassau. I don't care what they say. The mega yacht has full responsibility for exceeding speed for conditions. Additionally, the tanker was constrained by manueverability.

The tanker was was not restricted in its ability to maneuver, it was underway like any power vessel

Utopia was obviously give way as she was overtaking, clear cut case. The only thing the tanker can be blamed for was not having a functioning AIS for almost a year. Inexcusable but … tis da bahama, mon.

It s hard to understand how the captain left the bridge while running 20 kts at night with spray obstructing visibility and leaving somebody that was not qualified at the helm. Heck, the 116 I run is half the size but I only leave the helm at night to use the head even though Naomi is licensed and has been running boats with me for over 15 years!

Rumor has it that the owner of utopia has a history with crew and the boat has a high turnover…

Back to this latest incident, it’s been blowing 30kts down here for the last 3 days and AIS shows the boat leaving anchorage in the the bay, heading up a few miles to the turning basin, hanging around there for a while before heading back the way they came and hitting the bridge.

It’s like they intended to dock at the super yacht Marina but turned around because of the wind… that seems to be another questionable decision.

We can disagree on the tanker's ability to avoid the accident. It was fully loaded. Compared to Utopia it was a slug.

I agree with you 100% that it couldn’t avoid the accident, I was just saying that under the COLREGS it didn’t have any special status, neither RAM or CBD.
