1997 420 Aft Cabin opinions

I am looking to possibly purchase a 1997 Searay 420 Aft Cabin with 420HP 3126 Cat diesels. I have heard of troubles with these engines during those model years and, in fact, this vessel has had one engine replaced in 1999 by Cat. Can anyone give me any further info on either this vessel or these engines? I have a mechanic scheduled to survey the engines before I go any further. I would greatly appreciate any info as I am looking to live aboard this vessel. Thanks in advance.

I have the 1996 version and had both engines replaced five years ago. The problem with them were two fold.
The first being a valve delamination due to two different metals.
The second and more serious was a soft metal block mgft. in France and identified by FAPS stamped on the block.
These engines were wearing out the cylinders in 300 to 400 hours.
The fix was either new blocks, or bore and sleeve.
Since the repairs, I've had no problems, and the maintenance guys at my local cat dealer tell me the 3126 is a reliable engine.
