I've read a few posts that attribute fuel problems to phase separation due to interaction of E10 and the existing MBTE treated gas and residual water at bottom of tank. Short of pulling the gauge sender & syphoning form the very bottom prior to 1st fill of E10, does it sound reasonable to try , say, 20 or fewer gallons of E10 added to nearly empty (2-100 gal.)tanks and run that down to see if there are complications before topping off? That would seem a lot easier to deal with than 100 gals of topped tanks in case separation should occur. Anyone have any opinions as to why completely filling could have better results than my proposed small initial fill & test run?
BTW, I was amazed at last fillup with non-ethanol 89 octane ** $3.11/gal that thelower octane 87 octane that had already been switched over to E10 at the same dock station was priced at $3.93, I believe. That's for fuel that will provide less power & mileage due to fewer BTU's/gal., and potentially a lot more engine problems than non-ethanol of the same octane rating. Yikes.
