I lived in the Tampa area for 8 years and didnt find these two places until this week while visiting our daughters.
The first in Sarasota Jungle gardens. It is a small 10 acres garden/pond area that has many different birds and gators on display. You can feed the flamingos right from your hand. It is a self guided walking tour. All the animals there have been rescued. Either from nature or from bad homes. They have been well cared for and now have a wonderful home. Your visit will help continue their care. We spent a day there with our 4 year old granddaughter and will go back again next visit. THey are doing wonderful work.
The second just opened. It is a new Armed Forces Museum in Largo on 34th Street North just off of Ulmerton (i'll add the address as sson as i find the card). THis started as one man's tribute to military folks with a display of items he had in his own collection. He had built many new dioramas (sp) that are wonderful. He currently has 35,000 square feet and is expanding. He takes donations of military items and memorabilia. He has tanks, half tracks, jeeps, guns, bombs, greandes ets. It is an impressive collection. Well worth visiting. Veterans get in free. Go see it. You'll be impressed.
