I made the davits, cut them with a jig-saw. Material is plastic lumber that I bought at Home Depot. Drilled the holes with a 3" hole saw so the davits are easy to handle. Wheels are grocery cart wheels that contain no metal so you don't have to worry about salt damage. The brackets mounted on the swim platform are the Weaver quick-release model that you can order many places on-line. A local metal shop fabricated the stainless pieces that are attached to the plastic lumber so that the davits slide into the Weaver mounts. Great thing is when the dinghy is not onboard, there are only two almost flush mounted davit receivers on the swim platform so the platform is clear of any hazards. Takes about a minute to slide the davits into the receivers and another minute or so to lift the dinghy onto the davits. Takes no time to launch the dinghy, just uncover and push.

Definitely pointing me in the right direction. The Weaver release brackets that are bolted to the platform, could my welding shop make them as well?? Also my platform is about 6 inches off the water. I think mine may be even simpler since I do not need to have the brackets tip due to the close proximity to the water. Motor weighs about 80 lbs the boat about 50.

bigblue- you could probably have a local shop make the slide-in style mounting brackets but be sure that they are machined correctly so that the davit slide in & out easily so when you want to remove them they are not too tight. You also want a locking device that the Weaver units have but it is only a pin that holds the brackets in the receivers, that keeps the davits from falling off while you are underway. The Weaver quick-release brackets can be found many times used for not much $$$$ but you be your own judge of that. If your platform is only 6" off the water and your entire dinghy is that light you may not need the tilting feature.

If your platform is only 6" off the water the dinghy may be too close to the water and dragging when getting underway and also when coming off plane. Consider the total weight on that platform if you leave the motor mounted to the dink and the gas tank in it also. Consider adding additional support brackets also.

Good call. I will definitely take her for a spin before I mount these things. Maybe need em raised. If my dink weighs about what I weigh and 3 of me have been on the platform in some decent swells would it be safe to say it will be strong enough?

bigblue- you do want to insure that you have enough space to get on plane and back-off plane as needed since many of our power boats are heavy in the a**. Watch your swim platform while cruising and you will learn. I have a buddy that every time he powered down his dinghy filled with water, you do not want that to happen.
