2008 rendezvous

I just had a thought. The one bad thing about Swan Creek is lack of protection should a storm come up. And then there's the jellys. I'm not sure how bad they get in there. It might be OK.

But back to dates, July is about done. How about something in August? Say the 16th or the 30th?

August 16th looks OK for us. August 30 we will be spectating at the Port Deposit boat races.

August 16th would work for me too. I look forward to meeting all, particularly C_Spray, off the "other" gofast boating site.

Did you guys decide on a place? Is Swan Creek the choice?

Can someone add a poll to indicate how many are going, what size of boat, and who plans to show up early on Friday to start the raft up anchoring process? A couple of early arriving large vessels, with local knowledge, to solidly anchor the raft would be great.

What radio channel? How about 68?

Also how about a "Rule" that once secured within the raft up, boats are not permitted to shift positions? That would be great. The raftups that constantly break apart and reform, to put late arriving vessels next to friends boats buried in the middle, are a pain in the arse for everyone.

The only reason to reconfigure the raft up, should be to better secure it. Oh, and everyone knows to give the anchor lines a wide berth when arriving, right? <gg>

Friday is probably out for us, unless it's just before dark. We're 38'/12,000 lbs, and happy to deploy anchors, but not really the boat to serve as a mother ship. Pending approval by The Admiral, we would probably stay overnight, but some recent generator issues my have us ducking into one of the marinas (or plugging in to somebody) if the weather is hot overnight. Channel 68 is fine, and we're good with the raftup rules - they've worked well in the past.

I think that's what's been decided by default. At least I haven't heard any better ideas. And it does open up quite a number of marina options for anyone who can't handle overnight on the hook.

We'll probably anchor off by ourselves closeby and swim or dingy over. When you're a 30x10' catamaran weighing in at 5,000lbs, the idea of getting put in between people isn't very exciting. Heck, if there's enough pressure we could end up leaving as a monohull!

Sorry, you can't do that. You have been elected as raftup commander with local knowledge. Your boat looks ideal for two gofasts to raft to, right CSpray? <gg>

Big bliss at 46 feet is one of the logical key anchor boats. When can Big Bliss get there to start the raft-up? Any other early Friday Boats?

About ten boats so far!

Just learned that we'll be at Haven Harbor in Rock Hall that weekend thanks to an invite from some past YC members. Crab Feast!!!!

Chuck,

Do you still have my cell number? 215-356-xxxx? I have a new phone. I'm sure I can borrow a dingy from someone and find you guys if you give me a ring.

MikeeH - Yep, still have it. If you give us a call, I'm sure that we can find a way to break someone away to pick you up. (You still have my number, right?)

It looks like we will be able to make it there on Friday the 15th, although we should still not be "the" mother ship, we're happy to get things started. I know that Bliss is very good at proper anchoring technique, whether he starts the raftup, or joins later and he certainly has the mass to stabilize everything.

OK - Time to put up, folks: Swan Creek, Friday-Sunday, August 15-17.
1) Who's coming, and what is your ETA?
2) Boat model, size and name.
3) When do you expect to depart?
4) Try hailing on channel 68. If no response, try 16.
5) We'll use Mixman's coordinates as a starting point.
6) Show up with your fenders out and lines ready.

Don't use them too exactly. I was only up to my waist there when walking around the boat at low tide! About 100 yards to the east should be deep enough.

We'll most likely be over on the 16th (Saturday). Like I said, we've either got to have an outside spot or we'll just anchor close by and dingy over.

Let's keep an eye on the weather there. It's a pretty good fetch from the south (and to the west if not back in the creek far enough). I've seen some blows come through there and have watched raft-ups drag into other boats.

I will zip over Friday evening. We can discuss the old OS site. <gg>

I will be anchored for the weekend, so that is three confirmed.

Isn't the total 4.5?

1 - Bliss
2 - C Spray
3 - Hyperfishing
4 - Mixman
4.5 - MikeeH (sorry, lack of boat only counts as 1/2 :-)

Kurt..
Half is better than zip! Half will either be a borrowed dink or a hitch-hiked ride out to you guys (or it could be one of those half a Whaler demos!)
