( sorry.....no links to other forums )

Rommer, you make it sound as if SeaRay has historically exaggerated hull length. That's not true. The current model designations are respectively accurate in regards to LOA, and the morphing model game was out there WAY before SeaRay joined in.

Regal is a far worse offender of length exaggeration than Sea Ray.

Actually, Searay seems to go the opposite way:

Sundancer 240 = 24' 10" LOA
Sundancer 260 = 28' 8" LOA
Sundancer 280 = 31' 1" LOA
Sundancer 310 = 31' 4" LOA
Sundancer 330 = 35' 6" LOA

Yeah, I don't know of any SeaRay where they actually exaggerate the length in the designation. That's not to say that they haven't played some games. Just a few model years back, they went from triple-digit designations to double-digit, and in the process, the designations "grew" while the boats did not. The 500 Sedan Bridge was renamed the 52. That's ok for buyers of a new 52, because the boat is still a few inches longer than it says on the transom, but I feel bad for the guy in the next well with the exact same boat, that was instantly dated by a marketing dept. (well, not too bad, he still has one helluva boat)

42/44 sedan bridge springs to mind. Same exact boat. BTW - I'm not saying Regal doesn't do it. Their "defense" for doing it was "Sea Ray does it so we have to as well to compete" Complete BS if you ask me. Both sides are full of crap in this area.

Boat model numbers used to be represent lwl now it includes every damn appendage a manufacturer can bolt on. Slapping on a 3 foot swim platform does not make a boat 3' bigger in my book.

eclips

that one i agree, plenty of space between the engines... the rest is not seen but that alone is a huge improvement over the 60...

That'd be the 420/44 Sedan Bridge. Pay attention there Rommer!

The 420/44 are over 45' in length. They replaced the 400, which was 44 overall. If you watch the pattern, they're really just becoming more accurate, there's not a lot to "defend" if you ask me.

As far as Regal goes, I hope that they HAVEN'T blamed SeaRay. There's a 1997 402 Regal across from me that's a significantly smaller boat than our 40 SeaRay, and these examples are now over 10 years old.

Our 06 340 was (without looking it up) 37ft 6", our new to us 42 AC is 45'5"... Engine room looks awesome in the 55...

I sure hate their little close up photos, why SR does that on all their models drives me nuts! I don't need to see an upclose photo of part of a fiddle rail and cabinet edge, or a little tight shot of a vent window... The guy on the settee looks like he is about to cry, don't blame him, after he just shelled out 1.5 million. I like the pivoting aft cockpit seating, wonder if it would ever get used?

I have been looking at new boats, actually have a deposit down on a new Regal 5260, but the Sundancer 55 really looks interesting to me and I would not have to wait two years to get one...<g>.

What is the general consensus here regarding the 55 in particular and Sea Ray in general? I ask because it seems that there is alot of negative posting about Sea Ray. Let's hear it good or bad.

Thanks......

Mark,
I would some up the searay bashing in word word ENVY. IT all has to be taken with a grain of salt. I am not familiar with that size boat. Ive been a searay owner my entire boating life ( 15 years ) and its a love hate relationship. DO ur home work kick the tires and ask around like ur doing. Ull know the bull**** when it starts to flow and trust me it will....

Good luck...

Rob

I agree Rob,

I never understand why the Sea Ray Bashing. Pascal you're correct all boats have some sort of an issue or issues. There are millions of components that go into making one of these things float and operate.

I will take a picture of the engine room of our 48 (51' 10") LOA we have 2 and a half feet. Yes I will admit I cannot walk around the engines, however this is not a motor yacht nor is it a single engine trawler.

Thanks for the reply. I will indeed "kick the tires" and do the research. I currently have a 4460 Regal, and it has been very good. That is why I put a deposit down on the new 5260. But I always am on the lookout for other options and the 55 Sundancer does look sharp. I will be going to the Minneapolis boat show this weekend and will ask the SeaRay dealer lots of questions. I may find out that the best option is to wait for the 5260, but who knows?

I don't think I have even that much room in my current boat with gas engines. Maybe 2 feet between them at best.

You are right that neither my 4460 or your 48 are motor yachts or trawlers, and I wouldn't want them to be. To each his own. If the pics of the 55's engine room are accurate, that looks to be a step up.

As to the bashing, it seems that some people like to do that. There were several posts about the new regal 5260 complaining about various build items that turned out to be dead wrong. When the truth is posted, the complainers seem to evaporate.

55da engine room ..i am 6'1" at 250lbs, Rob quiet, and wearing a heavy winter jacket, and i just went in the bilge and was able to reach , touch and work on every system in that bilge..every battery, ac unit , fuel filters, battery charging units, glenndenning, rudders, seacocks..so all you guys who want to bash, do your homework, and the so called experts should really do their homework. if they are so good, why don't the experts build the perfect boat..now that would be interesting. i praise all of us who continue to purchase boats, homes, cars and take vacations and support the economy....GOD BLESS AMERICA

LOL.... Carver... Thats what great about this site.... EVERYONE gets to be a captain and post there expert b/s opinion. VERY ENTERTAINING .. But sometimes people take the b/s for fact... then theres a problem......
