25hp Evinrude doesn't pee water at idle

Hi all-

New to this site today...because I have a problem I'm hoping for some help/advice with.

I want to start trolling more, but my trusty '87 25hp Evinrude doesn't "pee" water out the tattle tale very well at idle speeds. I'm told I prolly need a new impeller.

Question: is this something I can do myself? Can I do it w/o a repair manual? Are parts going to fly when I take pieces off?

Any pointers would be great.
