Hiya Folks,
Posted topic a while back about water in oil. Diagnosis is cracked block. Crack in lifter valley about 3 inches long. Gonna have to repower so here is my question. Have a 1998 5.0 Merc. 240 EFI with Alpha. What would it take to upgrade to a 5.7 EFI? Seems that 305 blocks are hard to come by but 350 blocks are everywhere.
While I'm askin, I had an "expert" here tell me that Magnafluxing was a type of repair for a cracked block. Machine shops keep looking at me like I'm crazy. I thought it was a test method. I could be wrong. Any thoughts? But I don't mean to stray from the original topic. Anyone ever done an upgrade like this? Rick
