Do any of you 3227 guys have A/C? If so can you post or send a picture of the air duct from the mid-cabin locker as it routes up to the vent for the main cabin? Also what size is your unit as mine is a 16.8k BTU unit The previous ower had the A/C installed and Im not sure the duct they used was large enough. Stuggles to stay cool on hot summer days but ok at night. Thanks.

I own a 1985 3227 with the factory air, the controls and the main cabin supply line sit directly on top of the mid cabin hanging locker in the saloon. The forward birth is supplied by routing the supply line behind the reffer and along the hull just above the galley counter, it's inclosed in the shelf running along the hull covered on the side with plexiglass. This supply line enters the forward birth into the the first locker on the port side. The vent is actually cut into the first port locker door. The supply lines are 4" and I believe my unit is 16k btu. Hope this helps.

That is interesting. My 1985 does not have a AC outlet in the v-birth. I wonder if mine is not original or it was left out for some reason.

Thanks, Is the feed for the vent in the main cabin one 4" also? Or larger? How well in the cooling on a hot day?

I'm not sure I understand the question so I'll answer this way. The controls are located in the main cabin on top of the flat surface over the entry to the mid berth. Within the control panel is a supply vent (cold air delivery) measuring approximately 4" X 8". The AC unit is located in the lower half of the mid berth hanging locker and the return vent is located there as well measuring approximately 14" X 14". The mid berth cold air supply which I neglected to mention in my original reply, is located above the portlight behind the valance. If your laying on the aft end of the mid berth there is a louvered vent I'm assuming is for return air to the AC unit in the event that door is closed.

I neglected to respond to the issue of colling on a hot day. This past weekend the temps were in the mid 90's on Long Island and the AC maintained a tem of 72 during the hotest part of the afternoon. Considering that my slip faces west the solar gain through the windshield is a problem, but even with that we were comfortable.

My AC unit is under the dinette and the controls are under the hand sink where the unit meets the side wall.

there isnt any duct in the lower closet, all it had was a three sided plywood box on top of the unit with two four inch flex ducts that go to the forward and mid cabins. i found the coolest place on the boat was the closet and i didn't fit in it. i ended up puting a six inch duct through the closet taping all of the joints and puting a dampner near the top so i would get good preasure into both the v berth and mid berth making sure most of the preasure went to the salon. i then insulated the duct in the closet.it took up some storage but the whole boat stays cold in 90 degree florida weather
