3227 fuel tanks

I just replaced both engines a month ago. The marina calls me Monday and says my bilge has six inches of gas in it. Had to have the boat pulled and drained.It looks like the tank on the port side corroded under the saddle and leaked.When the engines were out I went in the bilge and cleaned and pressure washed everything.I guess I cleaned off what ever was keeping the fuel from leaking. What I need is the the measurements and location of filler and vent lines if anyone has them (pictures would be a huge plus) I need to order the new tanks and Carver doesn't have any info. I am 2000 miles from the boat and don't want to wait until I get back. I also don't want to rely on the marina.

willysross - I am headed to my boat tommarow and will take some pictures for you. By the way, do you have to pull the motors or cut the deck to get them out? I was looking at mine once and thought that might be the case.

This is my port tank:
-Width at top 19"
-Width at bottom 16" (angles out on hull side)
-Height 19"
-Length 78"

Intakes are 6.5" apart and centered with fuel sending unit between them. (2.5 inches from the rear of tank)
The fill tube is 14" from rear of tank and 2.5" from the side.
The vent tube is 12" from the rear of the tank and 6" from the side

Thanks your a life saver i will send these to the tank guy tomorrow. Maybe by the time i get back next week they will be about ready.
Yes i have to pull the engines back out, at least the back deck wasn't reinstalled so it should make it a little faster. I had left the back deck off to do some houskeeping of some wiring and hoses I wanted to change while it was easier to get to. It was a good thing that is how the marina smelled the gas.
If not I could be looking for a new boat,instead of two gas tanks.

willysross- Bummer, but don't feel alone. 1999 Carver 356, yeah 1999, port side as well. Unfortunatly I bought it that way, it was missed in the survey because it was belived that the tank was empty... I pulled the port tank, had to pull the carpet, plywood, & cut some aluminum out of the floor. Tank looked like swiss cheese from water corrosion, but it did have the crevice corrosion on the aft support where it sits on the rubber. Someone had tried to repair the outside in hole, so it happened pretty early I would think. Sent pics to Carver and they said this was a maintenence issue, and backed up that the tanks were installed according to the manufacturers specs. Sent pics to Florida Marine as well, did not get a response.

I am currently taking out the starboard tank to inspect. If you thought the port was hard, be thankful it was not the starboard. The aft tank will have to be abandoded (or cut out the swim deck) if there is a problem there.

Good luck on the repair, have them mount it with plastic strips adhesed to the aluminum to prevent the crevice corrosion.

if only the tank bottom is bad some shops will cut off the old and weld new for a sure fit.

bruce-- that is what I am having done, we are putting 3/16 in the bottom instead of 1/8. About $60 in aluminum, and the welding shop is charging me $200 to weld it up. Now as far as the labor to remove prep & replace... wow...
