I've been poking around trying to locate stuff and am wondering about 82gal water capacity. I located the filler and a tank under the dinette. I see a filler size hose with a valve when I open the floor panel in front of the fridge. Does this lead to a second tank? Doesn't seem like the tank under the dinette could hold 82 gals.

82 gallons seems like alot for a boat that size. When Carver puts in multiple water tanks, they tie them together with a 1 1/4"(?) clear hose without any sort of valve to keep it simple. What year 33 Mariner is it?

Ken, on one of his other posts Eddie said it was a 1983. So he must have the dual tank setup. Would that be port/starboard??? Where would Carver have found room for a big water tank on the starboard side of the 3396???

I looked for any kind of drawing for that system and cannot find oone. On that note, I believe for balance purposes, the other tank is in the same spot as the one you can see, but on the other side of the boat. As is with the 2807 Riviera, there is one tank under each aft berth, and they aare tied together with previously mentioned hose. There may be an access hatch under the carpeting to get to it.

Hmmm. The 3396 has a sunken salon area back there, and the floor runs clean to the starboard hull side, with only a sofa bed on the floor there. I can't imagine where the heck they'd stick a tank. Is it possible there are two tanks under that portside dinette, balanced on the starboard by something else???

It is possible...sorry for not knowing...I haven't seen one of those boats in ages :-(

My mistake WRT the year, she is an '82. The salon is not sunk(poor choice of words) nor is the dinette raised. There is a drawer under the dinette bench closest to the galley. I discovered the tank when I pulled the drawer out to follow hoses. I believe the hose with the valve is a branch off the water fill hose from the deck fitting outside of the galley area. The tank is definitely below salon floor level. I will try lights and mirrors with the drawer under the fridge removed to view the matching opposite location. All of the documentation claims 82 gallons water for the 1982 3396.

Eddie,
I went online and saw that it holds 82 gallons (including water heater). That's quite a bit for a 33...my 27 Montego holds 35 including 6 hot

I wouldn't have expected there to be enough room above the stringers to put a water tank under the floor in the salon. By "sunken" I mean that you step down from the cockpit to get into the salon (and indeed the whole cabin - its all on one level) on a 3396. I always thought the cabin sole rested atop the stringers the way it does in my 2896, but perhaps I am wrong. Or maybe they've squeezed the tank in between a pair of stringers????

If that is true, then I'd be careful to check where those hoses are routed. If they are run through a stringer (through a nice sized hole!) that would be a great place for core rot to start. As you probably know from my many past posts, that's my biggest pet bugaboo with very old fiberglass Carvers - its so easy to turn their insides into mush because they did a lousy job protecting the stringers and even the balsa core from rot. I don't know where those hoses are routed, so I might be worrying over nothing, but were it my boat I'd check it out...

The surveyor found an area with some suspected delamination in the area between the props when he was using the plastic hammer. Nothing soft yet but he recommended my staying out of the big ocean and to get it repaired within the next couple of seasons. Also one other small spot around a transducer.

the 3696 has them running down the center and one in the just off center port area with the shower sump..The 3696 has three tanks I would expect at least one to be down the middle witht he holding tank under the forward berth

Eddie, I would definitely pay attention to that delamination issue and get it fixed before long...

PB,
Is there such a thing as getting a specific area repaired WRT delamination? I keep reading about peeling the entire hull.
