38' Go-fast flipped in Solomons..

Just got a call from a friend asking if I heard about a go fast flipping north of the bridge on the PAX, Sat or Sun afternoon. I understand they were testing it out with witnesses saying it was well over 100 mph when it lost control.

All were ejected but the driver, a relative of another friend of mine. They are still looking for his body in some 100 plus feet of water...sad. Anyone else know more details?
 
Coast Guard searches for missing man in Patuxent River

BALTIMORE- The Coast Guard is searching for a missing man in the Patuxent River after a boating accident Sunday.

Four people were ejected from a 35-foot cigarette boat after reportedly striking a sand bar in the vicinity of Point Patient.

Ron Healy, a Good Samaritan that was in the area at the time, recovered three of the people from the water and transferred them to awaiting emergency services.

Coast Guard Station St. Inigoes, Md., Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., the Natural Resource Police, Calvert County divers and Prince Fredrick County Fire and Rescue are currently searching for the remaining man.

Coast Guard suspends search for man in Patuxent River

BALTIMORE- The Coast Guard is suspending its search for a missing man in the Patuxent River Monday.
 
Sounds like an ugly incident. I'm sure C_Spray will have some info as well.
 
How can you strike a sandbar and also be searching for a body in 100 feet of water? Did the hull travel that far after it flipped?
 
They did find the body today ....heard it on the news this evening.
 
Scorpio, This area very close to the Solomons Island Bridge on the Patuxent River is one of the deepest on the bay. Pt. Patience is literally within a hundred feet or so of this very deep channel.

Only what we all can read, or find on CBPBA dot com. The boat was the race version of my hull, a 38' Formula. It was made in the same molds, but was lighter since it used more exotic lamination materials and resins. It also recieved an extensive bottom blueprinting job to make sure everything was crisp and sharp. Formula built quite a number of these and had great success in the "Factory 2" class almost 10 years ago. The boat was since used in the "production" classes, where you have to stay within a speed limit.
It's my understanding that the engines and drives had recently been serviced, and that the guys were out checking things out. No word on whether there might have been a mechanical failure, but the boat was taken into custody. Sad for everyone, and particularly for Pat Reiter's family. He was found by the same Good Samaratin that helped the other 3 guys out right after the accident.

1. Why do fisherman insist on anchoring in the middle of a marked channel, sometimes at night with no lights?

I have been in touch with Pat's brother in law. I understand the body was found by his (Pat's) friends,and perhaps the original good samaritan as well.

I also understand but don't know for fact, that Pat was somehow involved in prop work or repair...possibly a clue to the speed runs?

May he rest in peace.
 
At the risk of starting WWIII, I ask why it is considered "reasonable" to be doing over 100 mph (or whatever)in the Pax River? If it were a sporting event and appropriate safeguards (e.g., river closed to normal traffic), then getting it on is great! (I love all kinds of racing...). I observed a "go fast" driving THROUGH a jet ski at maybe 75 knots, killing one of the 2 jet ski riders (23 YO female)... I NEVER want to see that again.
