I've got a pair of 4.3 mercs. '99 vintage. carb models. port engine starts but only runs for 30 seconds then quits. starts again every time and does the same. I can rev it but it will quit sooner. sounds like it runs out of fuel. Even when it is running it doesn't sound like the other engine. Sounds weaker. like maybe a 4 cylinder.Doesn't seem to have the power.
It ran great on sunday but tonight I was gonna throw out a crab trap and this is what happened.Needless to say , I never left the dock.
I'm thinking fuel pump.Would it act like this? Can't see it being electrical. but, when I pump accelerator by hand, I see fuel go down carb. So carb seems full.
Any sensors involved? Schematic shows wiring from fuel pump going through oil pressure switch. Possibility?
