I am looking at a 1999 40 Sedan with 3116 any pros or cons you would like to share.

I'd go over to xxxxxxxx dot com and ask about the 3116. I could be wrong but I don't think the 3116 has the reputation that the 3208's have.

Sorry........no links to other sites....it the forum rules.

You're right. Forum rules. Of course, if you want to know something about a particular diesel engine, xxxxxxx dot com is the best place to ask.
Helping people is the best thing about Boatered and if suggesting another forum gives people the answers they are looking for, then we should help.
I used to be a commissioned salesperson and many times I suggested to MY CUSTOMERS to call my competitor when I couldn't give them the help they needed and they really appreciated my helpful attitude. I never lost a customer by doing that.
Boatered should take a hint.

I agree Charles.....the 'no posting of other sites' isn't the right way to do business. It's also a very loosely enforced policy here on boatered....aimed more so at certain sites then others. Go into to the Silverton forum here on boatered and they talk about the Silverton Owners club website often.....but come here in the Sea Ray site, and you are chastised for talking about the Sea Ray Owners Club site....

There is one at our yard and it seems to be a well built boat with a very good layout. It has the Cummins 450C's so can't make the comparison. on the engines.

The Cat 3116 had it's problems and I would think that all the remaining ones in service have been updated or replaced. It's easy to have checked out.

There must be 6-8 boats at my marina with Cat 3116's and none of the owners complain about them- they seem to be fuel efficient in the right boat.

As far as going to another site that specializes in BOAT DIESELS would be a good thing to do. and I agree with cwms & dominic that it was a good and fare suggestion.

Hey Macy's Santa sent people to Gimbals to get the right thing

BTW: make sure it not this 40 Sedan

I agree......shared info is crutial in decission making........but rules are rules

You can e-mail Les.....if he OK's it.......then edit your post with the link.

Guys, I was afraid I'd get slammed for my post. THANKS for the support!!!!!
Yes, Macy's Santa did the right thing and when Macy's management realized how much their customers appreciated Santa's extra help, all employees were told to do the same.

Dominic, you're right about the rules being loosely enforced. Once, someone asked a fairly technical sailing question and I suggested a particular sailing forum might give him better help. My post was not deleted. I suggested the other forum because they have at least 100 times more sailors than boatered. For questions on motorboats, boatered is the place to go. For detailed sailing questions, there are better web sites.

There are websites I would NEVER mention here, but there some that people need to know about and it ain't going to hurt boatered one tiny bit if they were suggested for additonal information.

Hey Double D, you're doing your job. I hope you don't think we're giving you a hard time. We don't want to do anything that would jeapordize that high salary Les pays you to do this.

No, I'm not going to bother Les because I know the answer.

In Les' defense the rule exists IIRC because BF helps fund BE. I have had my talley whacked a couple of times for recommending another site. His site, his rules. It is what it is.

Also, I recall attacks on the BE server because of crap that came with a link being clicked.

FWIW, if you type BoaterEd on a competetor's site, it shows up as ********.

My 2 centavos!

Dominic, why are you picking on us at the Silverton Forum? I didn't delete the post requesting info on the SOC but watched the response carefully. They remain pretty generic, so I haven't deleted any of them.

Greg:

I'm not 'picking' on anyone. I just used the Silverton Forum here on boatered as an example. And only because there was a recent thread where I happen to notice the members were 'openly and un-editedly' referring boatered members to another site....another boating site..the SOC.

I don't agree with the policy of not being allowed to post references to other sites that can help someone.....whether the policy is here OR on another site. It's a rule, and I'll abide by the rule....I just don't agree with the rule.

IMHO, Forum Members, myself included, come back to a specific site for two reasons.....the information provided on the site and the other members on the forum.

As long as a Forum can provide good information from a bunch of good folks, a Forum will flourish....again...IMHO.

I looked at this same boat, but it was a 1996 and had crusaders in it. I just could not get the seller to the right point to close the deal with him.

I might be in the minority here, but I've got 3 friends with Sea Ray 40 Sedans. I've been on all 3, and the layout is great. However, all 3 owners complain about the ride. Anything over 2' rattles their teeth out. By all means, take a look at it, but sea trail it in not the best conditions and see how you like it. Just make the salesman dock it :-)

I have seen many references and links to the boat diesel website on these forums without it ever being an issue as they are not geared the same way as boatered and all they like to talk about are engines.
Anyway- I can't comment on the 3116's but several friends have the 40 sedan...nice layout. There are a few repo 40 sedans on the market right now that are excellent buys.

Your not allowed to post a link, but you can suggest a site. In the Silverton forum you won't see a link but you will see "you may want to join the Silverton owners club"

You could of just said: Do a Google for diesel motors forum, or something like that.

Walter

OK....to the original poster......You may want to join Club Sea Ray....do a google search

Does that mean the OP should also google boat diesel?

googling should yield the sight if one was to google "boat diesel."
