42 Carver mystery plate

When I had the boat out this year I found an approximately 4"x12" brass exterior plate bolted through the bottom just aft of the starboard engine. Inside there is a black wire attacted to one of the bolts. The plate shows evidence of galvanic corrosion.

Anybody know what it is for and where the black wire goes to?

this could be an electronics ground plate, although if so, it should be on the running surface instead.

It is probably a Dyna-plate. These are used primarily for SSB radio grounds. Some boats use them for a lightning ground. If you Google Dynaplate you can look and see what I am talking about.

I think you may be right. Would you know if this plate is sacrificial and need periodic replacing such as Zinc"? or is it a one time install & forget?

Also, should it be included in the through hull grounding loop?

a dynaplate is not sacrificial, although in saltwater, it may corrode away somewhat.

Some of the grounding plates are made of sintered bronze to increase the effective surface area. The metal is like a sponge and would look as though it is corroded.
