4th of July Weekend-What to do?

My parents own a 26 foot Regal that is docked on the North Shore. We own at 23 foot Regal that we may or may not be taking. My Dad is a new boater and still very afraid to drive. My in-laws want to take their boat (sea ray) somewhere the weekend of 4th of July.

We have been to Milford before for a weekend. Is there anything else fun on the North Shore? The age ranges will be Us-both 30's and two sets of parents, late 50's plus my son who is 15 months old.

Any ideas?
 
I am assuming you are not looking to sleep out on the boats?
Fourth of July on the North Shore is not as bad as the South Shore, but still not the best weekend for a new boater to be experimenting. Water can be crowded and there can be a few BUI boaters as well.

AS for places to go, Northport is nice. Just after you make the the turn, to the left is Sand City, great anchorage, nice beach, well protected. We have also anchored off of Smithtown bu Short beach. Going into Nissequgue by Kings Park is nice too. These are all anchorages. If your looking for marinas, then Port Jeff where you are or over to CT. Also by Port Jeff there is that cove as you exit the harbor to the right, forget what it is called, Conscience Cove? There is a big sand hill there the kids love to run down and slide.

Further away is Greenport, Huntington, etc. It all depends on how far you want to go. If you want to see fireworks, check the Gucci schedule on here somewhere. Might be hard to get a slip in a marina for the fourth at this point.

Norwalk has a nice visitors dock, a ton of places to eat and an aquarium.

Usually foreworks in Hempstead Harbor and better ones in Oyster Bay. I you do it, be careful, it is a zoo at the end with liquered up knuckleheads going too fast in the dark. Hang for a half hour and let them get out of your way.

It's called Pirate's Cove. We frequent that hill a lot!
 
HI,

I'll second norwalk as a good destination. Also, going east is Mattituck inlet, in the back of the inlet is matt-a-mar marinak, a nice place with a pool, resturant and short wlk to town.

Another good spot is Essex on the connecicut river.

I go to the Norwalk town dock often - it a great little town and close by
 
Middletown, CT on the Connecticut River is a great place to watch fireworks from the boat. Do not attempt to go down the river at night on the 4th. Hard enough without the bozos. An easy ride is Clinton or Westbrook to stay a marina. I'll second Essex for its New England village appeal. Essex Island marina.
