Hi all. I recently had my starboard engine replaced with a new one. Since then, when docking the engine stalls sometimes when going into reverse. Of course the power steering is on that engine and shifting easily and quickly into neutral is difficult. Once clear of the dock, my wife and I can gently wiggle the shifter and engine cables to slip the shifter into neutral. The stalled engine immediately restarts. This Bravo II system does not have the shift interrupt device. Since the shop recently replaced the engine, I had suspected that some connection may be loose. Has anyone suggestions that would be appreciated? Thanks.

Is the idle speed correct? Is this a carbed motor, or fuel injection?

350 cubic inch Mercruiser 5.7L engine with 2 barrel 250 hp. Boat is a 2007 Bayliner 325 that we bought new. Thunderbolt V factory stock ignition.

First you need to see if it it stall at idle speed or only going into gear which is obviously at ideal speed.

I would pull the harness connection apart and look at both ends, each individual connection for corrosion or being deformed. I had an older Mercruiser and one individual connection was deformed a little and caused the temp gauge to work sometimes and sometimes not work.

Does looking at the throttle linkage to see if it moves when shifting into reverse make sense?
