I have a 99 Four Winns with a Volvo Penta 5.7L Engine.
Ive changed the oil twice.
Can anybody possibly tell me why that I can hook up my pump to the threaded dipstick tube, suck out 4 quarts of oil and then start sucking air??? I KNOW the engine takes at least 5 quarts. Plus the oil filter is good for at least 1/2 quart. When I refill, if I put more than 3.5 quarts in, its over the full mark. I DONT GET IT!
I talked to my boating friends with 5.7L engines and they have similiar problems, like sucking out 4 quarts, refilling with 4 quarts, and then being 2 quarts overfilled. I know that at least Im sucking out 4 quarts because my oil container has marks on it for each quart.
So why is this? Im hooked up to the threaded part of the dipstick, no air leaks - will suck 4 quarts out with no air continuously.
