I just got a Chicago Elect. multi-speed sander at Harbor Freight for $29. It was $49, but is currently $20 off with in store coupon.
It comes with wax applicator, terry cloth pads and sanding disks.
They offer a 2 year warranty for $5.99 also.

I went to the local Harbor Freight store 2 days ago to purchase the 7" multi-speed polishing unit. Online price was $34.99. Got to the store and the scanned price was $49.99. Since I had the printout of the item from their website, they honored the $34.99 price. They also honored a 20% off a single item coupon that I printed from the website, so the final cost was $28. Buyer beware.....

Sandy, did you have to sign up for an account to get the coupon or is there a link somwhere

I did not have to sign up for an account to get the coupon, but when I just went back to find it, I couldn't. Seems they've made some changes to the site in the past few days.

The store here in Lake Charles had a sale paper looking thing with bar codes on each
item that was on sale. I didn't have a sale paper with me, but the guy behind the
counter brought it out and looked until he found it.
Reg. price was $49.99, when he scanned the bar code on the paper, it knocked $20 off.
It came with a 1 year warranty, I purchased an additional 2 years for $5.99.
That made it around $36 with 3 year replacement warranty.
I have a dock mate who bought the same thing about a year ago for $79. He didn't like
hearing what I paid for mine.

There's a "Super Coupon" sale running again now, through 02FEB10. Description is 7" Variable Speed Polisher/Sander Lot No. 92623 and their webpage says

Versatile 300-3000 RPM range for polishing and sanding
All ball bearing construction for smooth operation
Universal 5/8''-11TPI spindle
Spindle lock for easy pad changes
Aluminum die cast handle for extra rigidity
High impact PVC housing

Is this the one you guys have? Do you still like it?

I remember a thread where there was one NOT to buy. It had to do with the spindle not being standard so you couldn't switch to generic pads and bonnets. The buffer itself was OK, just not the spindle, but I think it was a Craftsman.

Does this one look OK? THANKS!

Bought one last year as an experiment. Bottom line, its not as good of a unit as my tried and true Makita. It does not have the power of the Makita and feels like half the weight.

Oh...tiny little detail. I reach for the HF version quite often. No, it doesn't have the power, but its so much lighter that I often prefer to use it anyway. When I really need the horsepower, I still reach for the Makita, but I think you are going to like the HF and will get quite afew hours of use out of it.

So it sounds like a keeper, then. I'd imagine you share pads and wheels between the two tools, leading me to believe the HF is in fact a "standard" spindle. Thanks!

yup, standard spindle. Mine is at least 6 years old and has compounded countless boats. Still going strong.

Thanks for that confirmation, Greg. Looks like time for an upgrade from our ancient single speed sander and little plastic orbital buffer.
Happy New Year, guys, and Thanks Again!

Greg,

Did you lend it out to Rodney?
