When I purchased this boat the engine hatch was missing and they were using plywood covered with carpet. I have an idea about taking marine plywood and making a new hatch cover. Does anyone know where I might get a used cover or what is the best way to go on this? I found some fake teak made from plastic to cover the hatch if needed. And I would like to fasten hatch with hinges and latch lock. Am I barking up the wrong tree???

It's a matter of tastes and ethetics, but yes you could do that. Maybe the electric bark collar needs to be cranked up a notch.

The hatch on my 79 260 was plywood. No hinges or locks, it just lifted out. As best that I can remember it had 2X6 framing and was very heavy. It was scribed to look like planking.

Thanks for the info and I need to bark every now and then and sometimes at the moon, dig.

What's going on with this newsgroup. I just wrote you a nice message full of great information and it ate it again. Why does it let me write a message and then destroy the message? I write systems and can't imagine writing something like that!
I've written here for years, and lately it doesn't know who I am? What broke at BoaterEd?

OK, tonight it seemed to want to automatically log me on, so I'll try to write again.
I have a 1980 26 Weekender. Not sure how close they were, but Searay kept everything pretty similar. Mine was a little beat up, and I changed things a little. The cover was just marine plywood - although I'll say they used good plywood as it was still in good shape when I got it in 2001. I added a second ply piece on top to cover the hole if the cushion wasn't set in place. Hinged that at the rear so I could check the engine easily. I had removed much of the rear seating on the original Weekender. So, I hinged the entire engine hatch from the front. I should say I still use the original 1980 cushion, which is in great shape. See if this link works to a picture of my engine box.
