98 250 sundancer rear drain plug?

It varies on ours with the plug being used. Some must be either a little bigger or have a little less taper than others. We have three and one of them's a favorite. The part in the transom is called "garboard drain" and both it and plug are tapered. I'd say try another brass plug and see if you like the fit better. Are all threads clean? You can use a wire brush on the plug and the wire "bottle brush" part of a battery terminal cleaning tool on the garboard. Put a couple turns of teflon tape on the plug and see if you can get a few turns on it without forcing. Should be "wrench snug" but NOT forced.
Whatever you do, do not overtorque/overtighten!!! People do that either trying to be sure it doesn't leak or to get a stuck one out. It is all too easy to turn the whole garboard enough to break the seal between it and the transom, and the seal around the screws that hold the garboard in place. THEN there is water intrusion into the transom.
Thanks for posting this. We're expecting rain and you reminded me I need to go take ours out. I'll try the two plugs we have here and try to tell you how many turns I get.

Just took the plug out. I like PlugA, which was in the boat. It was in below flush and took six or seven turns to get out. I compared with my spare which is PlugB. PlugB has a longer threaded portion than PlugA and is less tapered than PlugA. PlugB takes three or four turns and looks like it's barely started when it's in securely. Neither plug leaks.
It should be fine. And should seal, too. If you leave it in for an extended time, use some teflon tape or grease on it. With the teflon you can be sure it's sealing.As I mentioned, you don't want it stuck. If you trailer, metal to metal will be fine since you take it out every day.
