I keep forgetting to post this. I bet I have a "boating first"...which is tough to do considering there's nearly 30,000 boaters here.

About a week before launching, I noticed sticks and debris in my starboard exhaust. I thought it was very strange but I simply reached in the ~3" opening and removed what I could.

Later that day, I was in the clubhouse and it turns out some of the members were watching a bird go in and out of my exhaust building a nest! WTF!

They were talking about contacting the DEP, GreenPeace, etc to get my boat quarantined just in case the bird laid eggs.

How nice would that have been!

Afraid we outdid you Chris. About 15 years ago we where in the Ba-Mar trailer park Marina and had a duck that had made a nest and had eggs sitting on the corner of my cockpit cover.

So did you have fried or scambled eggs?

One spring we were walking to F dock and there was a duck sitting on her eggs near the ramp. A couple of Geese were attacking her and she stayed put like a good mom. I chased away the attackers. So sure enough the geese pursued this path and destroyed her nest.
The next batch she laid were under our wooden stairs!

We always knew when she was rolling her eggs at night because they banged around on the wooden boards. Sadly no one hatched, the nest on the dock boards was a bit rough on them.

Had a mouse eat one of my cushions and make a nest this winter while the boat was laid up , but I guess that just doesn't compare :)

We had a family of gypsies move in over the winter.

I opened the engine compartment expecting to find beer and ice, but a motor moved in over the winter lay-up. What will I do with that? I guess lots more trip up the hill for beer and ice. Oh well....

That's a dang shame. I hear that motors feed on gas and that is getting close to the same price as beer.

Chris, I think that means you're not using the boat enough :D

Some people really drag out the launch process ;)

Now, now, you guys know I had "issues" and I wasn't dragging out anything!!

Butch, I hang my head in shame thinking I could out do a veteran like you.

It must have been about eight or so years ago, John H and Barb came up to Coeymans to visit. One of the crazy "psycho ducks" had actually gotten inside my camper canvas and laid an egg on my companionway hatch. Barb had found it and left a note with it.

Funny thing is it wasn't the first time nor the last it had happened. Silly ducks get all crazy partying and leave their eggs all over the place. Like we'ere supposed to take care of them!

I remember that very well Ken. Crazy duck! It's one of our favorite stories to tell every time we see a duck getting too friendly with someone's swim platform. But...I forgot, what did you do with it when you found it?

I believe it was offered up (or down) to the almighty carp to enjoy.

It happens a lot around here. Renegade eggs are put in the nests by the kids sometimes but the ducks won't go back once they have been tampred with so we pretty much leave them alone, or in the case of those found aboard boats or on swim platforms, they usually go in the river.

When I say "psycho" I am not kidding. These ducks hide under the docks and sit on the floatation tubes. When you go stumbling on down after a night of fun at Yanni's they go squawking and flying out from under the docks. Enough to freak you out the first time or two it happens. The Albino ones seem to be the biggest trouble makers. Leave your boat sit too long and your likely to have several "residents" leave presents on your swim platform. Ugh.

KD we have thoes psycho ducks down here too , like you said they ususlly are diving in off the docks and going crazy late at night , I like to leave the dock early like 3-4 am and it's a ghost town except for the daffy ducks .

Were gonna head up your way in a few weeks and check out the anchorage behind the islands you were telling me about, let you know when the time is closer and we pick a 3 or 4 day weekend , what kind of beer do you like ?

Hey, Jon, Must be the HR water or something. Spawns crazy ducks. Sure, keep in touch about your trip. I like cold beer. Preferably Canadian.

Must be KD , Cold beer , you got it . Let you know when we head up -stream. meanwhile look out for Daffy duck man.

This is sounding pretty good. If we have our act together with the inverter etc. perhaps we can show as well. Logistics. Ask Brenda she saw the inside of the stbd side.
