It's nice to finally see the marinas filling in with boats. It has been a slow start for many but its starting to come to life. What a better feeling then the end of last year. I' m really looking forward to the first night in Bowline with all our friends BBQ'ing, swimming and having a nice cigar.

I'm in at SPBM. The only one. Went in yesterday. Didn't think I would be first this year. There's some activity in the yard of boats being prepped but the end of april it's usually busier. I wanted to go fishing today but it was too cold and windy. I think you will have to wait on swimming in Bowline. Yesterday the water temperature on my fishfinder was 49 degrees.

Congratulations on getting in first. I owned that title for several years over there. Just went for a cruise to help Dave drop off his boat for new canvas. As soon as my new dink arrives I plan on going to Bowline at dead low to confirm a safe entry. Agree on waiting to take a dip. The weather just won't seem to break.

Thank you to Hank and Allen for helping drop off my boat today! It was a fun ride but it feels weird not having my boat nearby this a first for me. I plan to stop by tomorrow and check on things but I confident everything will be fine. The marina could not have been nicer even though they closed at 2 they were there and very helpful to me when I arrived around 4.

I can't wait to see the boat finished and back in my slip, this is going to be a long week.

I was first in last year also. Put the boat on the trailer in Key Largo FL 2/27 and put it in here 3/12. Caught 5 stripers first time out. That's because it was 70 degrees then. I don't like to be in before Sea Tow. That's because I've been towed in twice in 15 years. Once because I hit something and once the motor died. The ignition module quit. Sea Tow put one boat in last week so I'm covered.

I'm looking forward to June, when my boat is launched!

Dave happy I could help, I am sure they will do a great work. Hey finally you will be able to enjoy your lights! Hank when you go to check out Bow line let me know. 2 dinghy's will be faster scan of Bowline :-)

I may come for the ride as well I can pole while someone drives.
I really like the idea of checking things out before we try to enter.

Did I sleep through the summer? Woke up again this morning and it was in the thirties and left for work in my winter overcoat. I hope you all had a great season. Going to buy th pink stuff this weekend.

April 23, and I had to turn the heat on this morning... This sucks!!

I'm heading south today!

Me too. I'll be in Florida by tonight. This weather sucks. If I find any warm weather I'll try to drag it back up north when (if) I return!

I'm only as far south as DC, but it's warmer here than at home.

I heard they are calling for 3" to 6" in PennyBridge tonight. Glad I'm further south than that.

That's not much of a tidal surge...

There are now 4 boats including mine in at SPBM. It's filling up fast. They are extending the end of the "D" dock 150 feet to the north into where "C" dock was. The place is really coming together.
As to taller pilings, Sandy was a perfect storm. Full moon, high tide and high winds out of the east all at the same time. Replacing all the pilings would be very expensive. With the business down now it might be hard to justify the expense.

I'm sure Wayne made PLENTY of money as a result of Sandy. We've had two nasty late season storms in a row. Not planning for another one borders on negligence.

I don't think it is just Wayne. Quite frankly, most in the area did not replace pilings. i cant say for sure but i dont think Patsy's did. Nor did some other marinas that I have witnessed outside of Haverstraw Bay. Did PennyBridge do all pilings that docks went over? I would think that pilings would be less costly then the docks themselves.

You mean if the pilings aren't raised the marina is libel for all boats that may be damaged in the next storm? Then no one has to insure their boats. The marina will pay damages.
The only way to avoid the problem once and for all is to close the marinas down and turn them into vacant land. Did they boot everyone out of New Orleans after Katrina or Homestead Fl after Andrew in '92? No. People still live there. If anyone doesn't like the way their marina was repaired they can put their boat somewhere else. I'm staying where I am.

In fairness, when areas are devastated, there usually are changes to the infrastructure during rebuilding. Ie: the levee system in NO's and building codes for homes. Obviously one can never predict what the next storms will bring and hopefully we will never see anything like this again but you should always learn from the past and do as much as possible to prevent the same thing from happening again.
