After a nice weekend at Atlantique, we came home to find some F-en AH stole some real nice stuff out of our detached garage. We have locked automatic garage doors, but the side door was open when I got home, but no signs of break in. I know it was closed when I left on Friday, however, I may not have closed it tight. Now I will use the key only bolt lock in addition to the current lock. Just stinks to think it may have been an inside job like a service person. Without getting into details, they knew exactly what they wanted and they were not kids. My house is alarmed, I wonder how much it would be to add the garage to the same house ADT system.

I will be filing a police report tonight and my village office said they have been having similar events lately.
 
Sorry to hear that, Brad. I hope that you have luck with your insurance if that applies. If there can be a silver lining here, it would be that there wasn't much malicious destruction, if that was the case.

Otherwise, it was nice seeing you and Linda over at Atlantique.

Sorry to hear. Not saying anything specific here, but I have often wondered about posting here and facebook future plans or current plans. I am trying to not do this as much, though even when I am away on the boat my kids are usually at my house. It's just a thought. These are public forums!
 
Brad.......that REALLY sucks.....but it may have been a good thing you where not at home. You never know how bad and ugly things like that could get !!!

look in local pawn shops. do a police report.
 
Brad that sucks. It could be they have a radio motion detector. In our place we had them installed so no wires were required. Cool stuff. Not sure if ADT supports them or not. All they had to do was flip in a new battery once in a looongg while.

after a breakin at our house the cops got a hand print. A while later they caught some 20 something dopers who had lived in the area in the past. Blew me away when they caught the bastards.

This is rel good advise! never post vacation plans on a public forum it is asking for trouble I have heard this time and time again usually from facebook.

As for ADT they can add wireless transmitters to you alarm and continue to monitor it at the same price. It may be worth the investment for the equipment. I usually don't wire garages because it creates problems entering homes however being yours is detached it may be a good idea.

Ditto to what Dave said, wireless transmitter in the house, then wireless endpoint (motion, glassbreak, magnet, etc) in the garage. ADT will hammer you, but you don't have much of a choice if your under contract (central service agreement). If your contract is near due to renew,you could negotiate the work done to be done for free. If the price they quote you is not good, threaten to go with Slomins.
Don't think about breaking you Central Station Agreement, they are Iron Clad. Any questions call me, you have my number.

Make a police report. You'd be surprised at how good they are at lifting prints. It takes a while to get them (the print results) back if they lift anything, but its worth a shot.
It might be a garage, but it still counts as a burglary in the people's republic of NY. The police are probably concerned with stats, so make sure they write it up as a burglary and you'll get a response.
I'll bet that of they got your garage there has probably been, or will be, a series of garage burglaries happening in your area.

I do have ADT with wireless transmitters, even a wireless flood (water) sensor in the basement. Works great and never had a single false alert.
 
Hey buddy, I have a shotgun I'm not using, once you shoot em, they never come back. Hope you didn't lose to much!

I would have never of thought the police would do this for a home burglary. I could see it if there has been a rash of burglaries.

Thanks all for the advice. I filed a police report last night, but they were not interested in print taking, but took all the information. There has been a lot of recent break-ins so I would have expected more with wanting to take prints. Brightwaters is a very nice incorporated village, but is surrounded by pockets of not so nice areas. This is the case throughout Long Island as you have very mixed neighborhood types within a few miles of each other.

I have contacted ADT and they will have a sales person contact me. My contract has been fulfilled years ago and I am on a quarterly bill so I may be able to leverage a competitor.

This is a detached decent size two car garage with a small upstairs attic, I don’t have a basement, so this is my place to hang out and work on stuff or just sit and listen to music. I hate using the new cliché “Mans Cave” but I guess it sort of is. So now what should I do, move my good Dewalt tools, boating stuff etc. into my guest bedrooms ? Oh wait my tools are gone… SOB !! I am Pi$$ed
 
Brad buddy, get rid of the cats and get a good dog! Take my gun and tell everyone you'll be on your boat all weekend, then stand guard... double o buckshot.. Admit it, sounds like fun!

Maybe you should keep a lookout on the Craigslist "for sale" section. Would be nice to send the police right to the A**hole if he tries to sell the stuff.

It may be worthwhile to see if you have any receipts/serial numbers in your paperwork.
