A short trip from fresh to salt

A friend of mine is considering taking his freshwater express cruiser down the Champlain waterway to NYC this summer. The boat will probably be in true saltwater for 4-7 days. The majority of the trip is fresh or brackish water. He is wondering if there is any problem doing this trip with his freshwater anodes and is there anything else he may not be thinking off in regards to the water differences? Thanks

Also, don't forget to thoroughly rinse the salt off the ( entire ) boat.

For that short of a time there should be absolutely no problem.

Just be sure to wash down good when back home. Do not leave the salt on the surfaces.

+1 does he have bottom paint by chance? Not that it should be an issue but it would certainly help ensure no issues, I wouldn't paint it just for this trip if not already painted.

I should have said "risk of barnacles", rather than the implied "rapid serious barnacle issues".

Note that frequent re-wetting of the bottom in fresh water for 12 to 24 hours should kill any active attached barnacles. ( Any husks will remain, however )

Saltwater isn't all that much to worry about for such a short trip. We're in brackish all the time and in full saltwater for a month each year. Your friend seems to be moving just about every day and it's a short trip. He should just enjoy it and not worry about NaCl

Magnesium anodes could cause huge problems in salt water - even for a few days - he should switch to zinc if he uses magnesium.
