I'm doing some routine stuff on a 2002ish 460 sundancer... how do you get to the windshield wiper motor on these boats? seems likes it's behind the headliner. is there a trick? how are the headliner panels fastened?

any idea if the galley electrical outlet is linked to a GFI somewhere else? it's not working, yet every other outlet on board is...

thks...

PS I wish i could get my hand on the engineers who decided to mount the water pumps in a location that you can't reach! and the vacum generators in a way that you have to take them all apart to get to the duckbill or remove the vac switch.

they have to do this on purpose so that the dealers can charge more, there are no other possible explanatin! :-)

Pascal,

Can't help you with the wiper motor, but the outlet is probably linked to a gfi somewhere.
I had the same problem, finally found the gfi in one half (the wife's) of the master bath medicine cabinet behind all of the junk.

that's what i thought.... i had checked in the medicine cabinet, it's on and the outlet works...i havent' checked in the aft head or in the ER... not sure why the galley would be linked there but you never know.

well i found the GFI for the galley... it's under the sink, on the left side, hiding down low, behind the fire extinguisher.

i was able to look at the wiper motor, heck, I could even touch it... with the tip of one finger, after removing a panel above the electrical panel (took me a while to find the screws, behind the electrical panel. but there is no way to work on the motor since it's behind some kind of bulkhead, leaving just enough space to put one arm thru... short of cutting a hole in the aft head ceiling, i dont' see how anyone can pull that motor!

Same location as the 400DA. I should've offered a guess.

I have 2 inop wipers. The location of that fix is: down low, left side of the isle in my local auto parts store. It's a yellow bottle labled "RAIN-X".

:)

yeah, but the shaft and the nut outside are plain steel and leave a disgusting rust streak!

WTH? I've never seen rust streaks from the wipers of a 460, and I've been on salty 460's that have led tough lives.

I wonder if the dead motor is already an inferior aftermarket unit? The wipers have been on my to-do list (near the bottom) for a long time. It looks like a miserable and expensive job on the 400, which looks easier than on the 460...

no, it's original and there is no way anyone could have replaced it... there is just no way to get to it. once that trim above the electrical panel is off, i can see it but can't get to it. the only solution would be to cut a hole in at the top of the bulkhead between the saloon and the aft head. it's behind some trim but a messy job. then with a hole large enough you can put your arms thru.

speaking of rust streak, the condensate drain for the helm Air Con is a master piece of lousy engineering! they run it along the stbd side of the cockpit and let drain in a stern locker leaving rust streaks on the transom and swimplatform... I always wondered why the 2003 460 next to me had a nasty looking rust/dirt streak at the stern.. now i know. we're going to drill a hole to route that to the ER and into the bilge or maybe Teed into something else. Not ideal but better than staining the swimplatform.
