After having several summers on the water to contemplate the relative merits of my ground tackle (and most everyone else's that happen to anchor nearby), I installed a new combination rode last weekend. I'll be taking off for week on the water in a few days and am expecting some big improvements with the 35' of chain. Now the anchor is going set every time on the first try, and never drag or snag ever again.
The rode includes an ACCO swivel designed for the chain in use. I anchor by hand w/o roller or windlass, so there is no need to worry about this swivel hanging up on anything.
The brief product description on this swivel says it replaces the anchor shackle. After all, it essentially has a shackle on both ends.
So, I installed the swivel with the end closest to the hex head to 5/16" 3B chain and the other end to the Danforth Standard 1300.
Will this ACCO swivel work any better with a shackle between it and the anchor or between chain and swivel?
