I plan on pulling my low compression 1977 mercruiser 350's and replacing them with 1987 Mercruiser 350's. I have the complete set up for the replacement motors. Carb down to the oil pan with all the accessorys already bolted on. If I read in the manual correctly, I need to remove the upper/lower drive unit, then disconnect electric, fuel, and steering lines and the motor should be ready to pull.
I have the gimble, trim plate, and outdrive from the replacement motors but want to use my existing outdrive. Will it mate up fine to the replacement motor or will I have to use the new outdrive? The book recommended replacing the seals on the outdrive. What other things should I replace for safety sake? I plan on replacing the bellows. I have pulled automotive motors and transmissions out before and reinstalled. Never messed with a boat and plan to go by the book. I have a shaft alignment tool to make sure the motor sits in correctly to mate with the shaft from the out drive.
Any words of wisdom will be appreciated. I want to do this motor swap right the first time.
