AGM batteries

Tried AGM, made sure the charger was correct, did not last as long as wet batteries....switched back

They don’t last longer than flooded batteries but you don’t have to check water level and they can spill. I like AGMs in cars but on boats where the batteries are accessible I don’t see the benefits.

if you switch to AGM make sure you charger can be set for them
It looks like a charger setting for flooded battery can also handle a normal AGM. You need different charger settings for spiral cell AGM batteries or Odessey.

Depends on the charger and the battery. New AGM's can take just about anything. Older designs cannot. The most robust are the Johnson Control batteries like the DieHards. They can take just about any charger. Spirals cells are a little more finicky.

I am still interested in trying an AGM in my boat but need to continue my quest to find one for an affordable price.

I wonder if summer rack storage would be a good reason for an AGM battery since it has low self discharge. Since on a rack you cannot plug in a battery charger like you could in a slip or possibly on a trailer.

Interstate AGM's worked well for me when I rack-stored the CC for 1.5 years.

Maybe alternators on the engines with AGM did not have the proper charging characteristics for an AGM. And spiral wrap AGM and Odessey need a different charging characteristics than a plain AGM.
