The First Officer and moi will be cruising down to the Keys on or about 16 July - 27 july calling on Vaca Key for some much needed R/R before possibly heading further down South...
Twenty tears ago I use to drop the hook in Vaca Key next to Sombrero Bar...
Now, I am getting vibes that their are no longer any FREE anchorage inside Vaca and you must pay a Vig..
Could this be true ,nobody wants cruising boats anymore without paying a duty to lay over?
Has decadent Capitolism spread this far South?..
I would appreciate if any of y'all can advise me as to proper protocal for the cruising folks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but arent anchorages free and only moorings are rentable?
 
Well so far, I've been informed that "You must rent a mooring ball, inside Vaca Key". I called the Harbor folks at Marathon and it seems that they are "Not sure if you can still drop a hook inside"
Tomorrows phone calls will be to the Y.C. and the USCG.
I will report back.
