Today we had our shake down run, aboard was "Diesel Max" a Company that prides itself with professional work. With proper tools you can learn a lot about diesel engines for example, the STB engine was overheating at high RPM's, with a temperature gun he was able to locate 2 areas where the problems were, first was the in front of the heat exchanger where some small pieces of grass like debris lodged in plus 2 fins broken off from the impeller. Cleaned and tested. Next place was Before the sea strainer in a 10" piece of hose that was attached to the shut off valve where some mollusks were happily ensconced inside the hose cutting off a large seawater flow. Cleaned and tested. Ran her at 9.5 kn. Whoopee.
New 8kw Gen-set installed
Engine room was painted white. along with touching up the engines and transmission with Perkins blue.
In the engine room was sound proofing that had wicked up the seawater and became spongy and flaking..
The Engine room was cleaned of all sound tile debris. Mumm & Griffin of Lantana did a beautiful job of replacing it with a new type of leaded soundProofing . They reinstalled the STB. rudder shaft and mountings. Fiberglass Scott, did the glass repairs. In 2 weeks it will be my turn to get the detail company of "Stem to Stern" to make her look like a real lady again. When my boat hit the water, another boat was lifted up for Hurricane repairs.
Let me tell you that being away from my boat that long was giving me withdrawal symptoms.
Now I'm aboard and enjoying the good life again.
