I hope someone out there can help me. So far, they haven't written a boating for blondes book so I must again come with cap in hand.
Here goes:
I decided to take the boat out yesterday. Prior to leaving home I flushed it to warm it up and make sure everything was working correctly which it was. All gauges and pressures were good. However, the port side exhaust had 1/2 the amount of water coming out of it but I thought it might be due to the seawater intake pump being on the starboard side of the boat. An alarm started going off so I opened the rear deck and checked for excess heat or leaks. I was able to put my had on the manifold and valve covers, not hot - tolerable to the touch.
Again looked at all gauges, all good. So, I put the boat in the water anyway.
It fired up great! I let it warm up and then at 2000 rpms, there was that alarm again! Again, oil pressure and temp gauges were fine, I even tapped to see if there might be a problem with the gauge, but nope.
I turned off the boat, opened the hatch again. Again, no excess heat, all components semi cool to touch. and I had not gone over any sand bars.
Decided it might be loose wiring so I cranked her back up and yep the alarm went off.
I could change the alarm pitch by changing the trim tilt, even by just tapping on the trim. If I brought the tilt all the way down, the alarm stopped.
Well, I just ran the boat again, runs great and I ran out the carbon. But the alarm....checked several times, no exess heat nor leaks.
If I brought the tilt back up, the alarm went silent again. But as I stated, I could change the pitch by tapping the tilt.
Can anyone out there help me? I am sooo tired of supporting my local mechanic.
I have a 1998 Baja Sidewinder with a mercruiser 5.0l.
Thanks.
Laura
