What did Regal replace the alcohol stove with? I have not used the stove in my 1999 242 yet because I can't seem to find alcohol for it...

I did brew coffee on the outside BBQ. But then proceeded to drop one of the perculator pieces overboard just as I was telling my daughter to becarful cause the metal pieces will sink and be gone forever.....oops...lol

Thanks again

What kind of alcohol/stove? All the marine supply stores sell that stuff so I'm surprised you can't find any.

The alcohol that I am to use in my stove is Denatured Alcohol...I buy it at the local hardware store...
Use the alcohol recommended by your stove manufacturer...

I went to the local Westmarine as well CampWorld and neither had it... I guess I could call Barry Paulsons (local Regal Dealer). What type of stove is the larger newer Regals using?

Personally, I can't see having the open flame inside the cabin..
I feel too much risk.. so never used it, never will...

I'm sure there are others who would say it's fine.. I don't feel like taking the chance with it.

While I agree the older, pump-up style of alcohol stoves are dangerous due to the possibility of flare up the newer ones are very safe. In fact boiling a pot of water can be a pita with the newer ones!

We have a gas stove at home and allow open flames there and the boat is no different. We even burn candles on the boat as long as we are onboard at the time.

My point is, with proper use and a good CO detector, an alcohol stove can be a nice thing to have on the hook without having to rely on a generator to heat something up.

Since you mentioned Paulson's, where do you live. I have a gallon you can have. I'm down in Arroyo Grande. We are tentively planning a trip to the Delta the first week in Oct. I could meet you someplace, give you the fuel, and talk Regal's. I don't think UPS would allow shipping of fuel. I had an alcohol stove in my 233 and should have sent it off with the boat when I sold it. It doesn't go bad. Let me know.

You should be able to find Denatured Alcohol in the paint section of any hardware store, Home Depot, Lowes, probably even WalMart.

THanks everyone....

Hey Patrick - I live just north of Sacramento. I think I can spring for a jug of my own... I just wasn't sure what type of Alcohol or if the stoves worked very well. Sounds like they do I just need to get some fuel.

thanks anyway.

Alcohol does not burn as hot as other fuels and perking a pot of coffee will take forever! I use a portable stove fueled by butane canisters. I prefer to use it topside and not have the condensation and grease problems of cooking below on my small boat.

Hi Rommer,

Thanks for the info on the new alcohol stoves.. we don't have a gas stove/oven at home either.. both my wife and I prefer an electric... so even at home we don't have the open flame.

I know many like to cook on gas.. but we are opposites I guess. :)

Our #2665 has a dual mode Alcohol/electric. We tried out the alcohol last year and the flame is not as hot as running the electric, but I think it is safe if used per directions. This year we bought a butane camp range, and it works great when were on the hook (Dick's Sporting Goods - also got a nice stainless steel percolator coffee pot there too.
