I know this topic comes up a lot so I apologize for doing so again but my '03 Alpha (350Mag MPI 220 hours) has whined at cruise speeds (about 2800 RPM) since we bought it used a year ago. I had the alignment checked last fall and it was fine. Our old Alpha one Gen II on our old boat whined a little but not as loud or consistently as the new boat does. I plan to grease the heck out of the gimbal bearing and (if I can get to it) the coupler next time we are at the lake and I hope that takes care of it. If not, should I be concerned? I have heard that Merc says there is nothing that can be done about the noise and it's an inherent charcteristic of the design. I just don't want to have a loud expensive clunk occur because I negelected a problem!
