I'm guessing that I need to use a marine alternator? The automotive version looks identical.
I have Merc 496 Gas motors.

The automotive version is NOT ignition protected most likely. Use the marine version.

"Use the marine version." YES--your life depends on it!

The original alternator was a 19020611 and replacement I got was 19020612.
The guy said they are the exact same.
I'm not trying to go cheap. They are the same price. The difference is the 19020612 was in stock. He said this model is not for cars.
The shop does a lot of work for the airport. He does all the tugs, luggage carts, fuel trucks and forklifts. He has this model for the propane forklifts.

The difference between a boat and some kind of land vehicle, the boat has a fully enclosed engine compartment where gas fumes can build up and anything electric that is not ignition protected, could potentially cause a BIG BOOM.
All those land vehicles do not have enclosed engine compartments and gas fumes CANNOT build up.

From the Delco site , it appears the "new replacement" for the 7Si series # 19020611 12v/ 70 amp alternator with J180 hinge is # 19020612.

No idea what the difference is with the new one but I ...think... you are good to go as long as the 1st number was the correct original marine alternator.

I'd just visually confirm the pulley is correct for your belt(s) & the spark arresting screens are in place. ( That said , many don't seem to have them visible.)

Thank you Sandy. I do believe the 19020612 is a direct replacement.
I appreciate you taking the time to look into it. I just needed to confirm
