We have friends in Lake Wildwood. They live right across the road from the lake. It's a small lake, but very peaceful. Mostly like a retirement area (which is what our friends are). There are plenty of wild turkeys that run through their property on a regular basis.
We have a cabin on 14 acres on Independence Rd in Glencoe. The property has been in our family since the late 50's. Growing up, I spent almost every 4th of July at "the cabin". I really enjoyed the fireman's BBQ that they held each 4th. I also spent a lot of time at Stiver's Ranch in Railroad Flats. I went to a private grammar school that was owned by the Stiver's here in the Bay Area and they started their ranch and held weekly summer sessions there. It was extra cool since it was right around the corner from the cabin.
We used to stop at Gary's Market (no longer there) on the way to the cabin. It was on 26, near Ridge Rd. Gary was a transplant from Castro Valley. They closed it down after he passed away. It was his labor of love.
Shad Lake was another hang-out of ours as well as Mokelumne Hill and Jackson. Even today, every now and then, we'll head over to Mel's Diner and grab one of their great burgers.
And of course, in the opposite direction is Angel's Camp and their famous frog jumping. Lot's of bikers there...
As far as the SF sailboat races go, what do they plan to do with that monument once the blow-boaters blow out of town?
