The current Oracle tactician deserves to get fired.
The basic rules of match racing is that if you are ahead you cover the other boat. Twice Oracle was ahead and twice it did not do that and they lost. When they covered NZ they won.

yes, I agree, big mistake, but he's the only American on the boat

Correction..lhe was. The new tactician, Ben Ainsley is British.

That early tack in race 5 on Tuesday was a mistake but no matter who is calling the tactics, the boat just doesn't tack as fast and doesn't go upwind as well. Loosing a minute on a leg comes down to boat speed, not tactics.

Pascal is right. See today losses. NZ is faster and there is nothing that Oracle can do about it.

They are getting very strict on the transit zone. I left the dock at 12:20 and they didn't even want to allow me to go South to Pier 27 to go around to the east. CG "escorted" me that way.

Kris - I know you left after me, did htey hassle you?

On Thirsday I was able to get clearance on 23A to transit East around 12:30ish without problem. I am going out today and plan to leave around the same time. Not sure why they would hassle you to get out of the transit zone before the race starts. You were a good hour before any of the boats would be using that area. I have found it is different every day though.

Would be nice to see at least one more USA win. The first race on Thursday seemed to be more of a tactile loss than a boat loss. It started when they rounded the mark heading upwind and just got worse from there.

I'm not going out today, but hope there is more than 1 race on Sunday!
CG intercepted me as soon as I came out past the Cruise ship. Told me I should not be in the area and that they were doing me a favor in letting me go.

A new 260' mega-yacht (Vibrant Curiosity) is anchored off Sausalito. It is fun to see all of those huge yachts in the SF Bay. We went out yesterday for the big regatta with no problems with the GG.

Holy Cow - NZ almost tipped over. They had to be 45 degrees tipped
Oracle got the 1st race today

On TV they got some great action shots of that! Take a look if you can; the cameraman must have been right at water level with a fantastic HD camera.

I took a total 36 shots on last Saturday, but I missed my target due to the boat getting knocked around and my camera's slow shutter speed, so I'm not going to post them. You guys have got it covered!

Watched the highlites of the 'almost tip-over'. Looked like USA saved NZ by interrupting the wind and allowing the NZ boat back down instead of going over.

Well, Oracle won 1 out of 2 today. Too bad they could not have started this way.
I played tourist on the shore today. Views from the shore are as good if not better from a boat. Went to the Americas Cup park (Pier 27/29)for 2nd race. Tons of people and lots of energy. Very fun.

If you mean the orange markers, I think they are anchored

Oracle lives to see one more day

Arnold - I confirmed today that the marks are anchored. I went to Americas Cup PArk nad happened to stand beside a race marshall. He said that they were first going to use boats as the marks. In fact they used them during the AC45 series races. You still seee them out there - they are the orange powered Cats. They have gps linked pod drives and can stay in one spot. These would allow the marks to be moved during the race or between races if race conditions changed. However, after the Artemis crash and considering the closing speeds of the new foiling design, they considered the "boat" marks too dangerous. Thus, they came up with the inflatable marks that are in fact anhored. They do have instrumentation that measures wind speed (maybe other factors as well, not sure) so that they can monitor wind speed all over the course.

Wow - Oracle lucked out today. They were hugely behind in the first race, but NZ did not get across the finish in the time limit, so race was abandoned. In race 2, they came from behind in the downwind leg and won the race with some good decisions and manuevers

Although the TV coverage is excellent and they give all sorts of data on the screen, its hard to appreciate the speeds that the boats are going unless you watch in person. I've gone out on boat quite a few times, but it is even good onshore. I watched several form Pier 39 as well as in the Americas Cup Park close to the finish line. I don't think the crowds are as big as they hoped, but still there was a lot of people and energy at many of the viewing spots. I'd have to say that more people watched this Americas Cup than ever before

Tons of people wearing the Kiwi sponsored shirts.

Yesterdays race, first race was won by USA but the 2nd race was canceled cuz of wind. 8-2 NZ

So USA won one race today? 8-3 NZ?

yes - score is now 8-3 although USA has won 5 races, but started with minus 2 from penalty

I suspect it may end today. I just don't see NZ losing 2 more in a row

One race at a time. Hoping for more races. This has been such fun watching these guys. Here are a few more pics from the last few races.

From the water races 6 and 7.
