Couple days left until the start of the 2013 America's Cup in San Francisco. Was a bit foggy today but I was able to get out for an hour to watch some practice.

We will be out on Thursday/Friday
I guess they are doing some time trials on Friday

Is that Ellison's mega-yacht?
 
I'm a bit surprised by the lack of general East Coast awareness/interesst in this year's Cup Defense. I have yet to see anything in the popular press, big or small city. South Florida can be a bit insular but I have a suspicision that the weird design of the modern boats has turned off the casual nautical
afecienado.

Please continue to post these great photos! I doubt if we will see anything elsewhere that is close to their excellence.
 
Jerry, I will be there Thursday and part of Friday. We plan to head out to the Delta on Friday. Will hang out for a bit on Friday to see what is going on before we get under way. I believe they are doing some sort of parade around noon followed by a Fleet race / time trials on Friday. Looks like every on Thursday is on land except fireworks.

I am planning to run over to Alameda to pick up some folks Thursday morning (BART strike sucks!) but will be at PIER 39 the rest of the day till we head out on Friday. Hopefully their won't be much fog on the 4th for the fireworks.

Come by if you get a chance, we will have cold beer.

I believe that is Elision's smaller yacht...
 
Those photos are fantastic! And San Francisco makes such a wonderful backdrop. I think you've captured every landmark in the background of your pictures.....

With the hot weather in the valley the winds on the bay should be snorting.
 
Does anybody know if they are allowed to practice in the OFF days?

Kris - yes good to meet you as well. Hope your trip up to the Delta went smoothly.

Fireworks were fantastic. I don't remember it ever being so warm
 
Great shots, Kris. Did you make the Mandeville fireworks? It was a hot one this year.

Nice pictures. I engineered on that one boat named "Just Enough" for a while. If you are by there again and see any crew around ask for Capt. John or Simon and tell them Capt. Bill says hi. And then ask them if they have got both engines running yet. :-)

I'm thinking this was Just Enough in the Boat Parade the next day. Huge weather change as you can see

We were standing next to Willie Brown on the Americas Cup pier on Thursday and some one on just enough recognized him then invited him on. They didn't invite us along with him if you can imagine that.

The tender for Just enough should have been named "Not Quite Enough". Looked like an 80's I/O run about. :)

Al, we were in SF for the fireworks. As Getakey mentioned it was unbelievable weather. T-shirts at 10pm on the SF Bay.

We are out at Oxbow now, perfect weather.
 
That is not the normal tender. We towed a custom 32' express sportfish. But they left that in Costa Rica on the way to San Fran. I think the runabout is just for their stay at the races.

Willie Brown the politician? That makes sense. One of the owners is and has been involved in CA politics for a long time. I've been in Email contact with that owner today about some engineering things on the boat. If you guys keep the pictures and intel coming I can feed it to him and I'll have him thinking I installed some kind of spy cam/monitoring system on board before I left. :-)
