Took a run through Amity Cut today. Just north of the breach read 3'6" with 2 hours till low tide. Depth sounder lost signal completely at the breach.
It also appears that the course has been slightly altered , so be careful.
 
Yeah, noticed that too. Odd set up this year. Angles south are different.
 
Curious who decides to change the channel?
Is there a science there or do 2 minimum wage guys in a jon boat go out and drop buoys where they look good?
On the average summer I am sure a few million dollars in boats run thru there, so it needs to be right!
 
In the Town of Babylon the Bay Constable does the buoys. I asked them how they place them and I was told they use the GPS location from the previous year but if the channel has shifted they will use the deepest location. I haven't seen them yet this year so I can ask why no buoys yet in the bay.

As rob said they use last years spot. When boats run aground they make changes ...
