anchor for north shore vs south shore boating

i boat mostly boat on the north shore and have a fluke style anchor that works pretty well in the sound. are there better types of anchors for the north shore? what type of anchors are used for the south shore (int hebay)?
 
The best all-around anchor is the Fortress.
 
I thought Fortress was a brand of anchor, I thought the best all-arond was a danforth.....

I use a Danforth Hi-Tensile in the Great South Bay. I prefer it to the Fortress, which I use as a backup and keep stored away.
 
The Fortress is a Danfrth style,light weight anchor with incredible holding power. This month's Power & Motoryacht tested ten anchors, the Fortress had the greatest holding power.

I also have a Danforth Hi-Tensile, I think the Fortress holds better, you just have to be more careful setting it, as it drops to the bottom much more slowly, due to it's light weight.
 
I have a Bruce Anchor & had one on the last boat also - that work great for where we have gone on the sound etc.
BUT I did not buy them, they both came with the boats-- I had a Danford on my 37 dancer and it work as well
These boats had all chain rode which help tremendously

We had a CQR on our 33 cruisers and it was the best of the lot, but was over sized for the boat.
All of these had windlasses, which makes it much easier with oversize ground tackle.

I also now have a Fortress as a backup anchor, we also use it as a stern anchor.

I don’t know if you have windlasses, if you don’t I would recommend the fortress,
It very light for what ever size you get and the holding power is very good

During the 2005 HRCC/LICC raftup we use my Fortress as one of the stern anchors and it did not budge an inch
 
Ok i got a better question... Why arent all windless's free fall ???

I cant think of down side...

If you have a light anchor like the Fortress you can't free fall it. the line will drop faster than the anchor and could foul it.

my last 3 boats had power down - they were all chain rode
I don't know if my anchor is heavy enough to pull out chain rode
 
all - thanks for the comments. i'll be using a windlass, so the weight of the anchor itself is a little less important. i have a friend who recommends the delta anchor but he doesn't boat in our waters. how is the delta anchor for the sound?
