I used both a 33 and 44# Bruce with various lengths of chain (20-30' 3/8) with my sail boat. NO, didn't use them together, just one or the other. This spring my work plan includes installing a very large horizontal windlass that was purchased last summer along with 180' of 5/16 HT chain.
My boat is a 1990 40' Silverton aftcabin with about 25000# displacement. I have the 44# Bruce although I think it might be somewhat light for my use. Really considering 60# plow or a 66# Bruce. The price difference between these two anchors is substantial. I never had problems with either Bruce anchors in the past but again, different boat.
What are folks using for anchors in boats this size? I know many carry anchors with no intention of using them but I intend to anchor and sleep at night. Bruce or plow??? Thoughts?
